ALERT: EAA implements Stage 4 Water Reduction

Drought Restrictions

CASTROVILLE-This week NO WATERING is allowed with  lawn irrigation/sprinkler systems from August 15 - 19. Watering is allowed using a hand-held hose or bucket is allowed any time on the day. (see attached for more details)

The Edwards Aquifer Authority implemented Stage 4 Water reduction effective August 13, 2022. Stage 4 requires a reduction of 40% in water usage and, per City Ordinance No. 2009-013, landscape watering with an irrigation system, sprinkler or soaker hose is allowed every other week from 7AM to 11 AM and 7 PM to 11 PM on your designated watering day as determined by your address (see attached flyer for details)

The EAA requires Edwards aquifer groundwater permit holders in Atascosa, Bexar, Caldwell, Comal, Guadalupe, Hays, and Medina counties to reduce their annual authorized pumping amount. The purpose of mandatory pumping reductions is to stabilize water levels and spring flow until rainfall replenishes the aquifer.

We are asking everyone to help conserve water by reducing their usage. Although there are lawn watering restrictions for irrigations systems, sprinkler or soaker hose, you may water with a hand-held hose or bucket at any time on any day. Early morning is the best time to water your lawn, as that's when you're least likely to lose water to evaporation, according to the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service.
