ALERT: EAA implements Stage 3 Water Reduction

ALERT: EAA implements Stage 3 Water Reduction

CASTROVILLE-The Edwards Aquifer Authority implemented Stage 3 Water usage reduction of 35% effective June 13, 2022. Per City Ordinance No. 2009-013, landscape watering with an irrigation system, sprinkler or soaker hose is allowed on every other week from 7AM to 11 AM and 7 PM to 11 PM on your designated watering day as determined by your address (see attached flyer for details). This week is a WATERING WEEK. Next week will be no watering except with handheld hose or bucket on any day, at any time.
The EAA requires Edwards aquifer groundwater permit holders in Atascosa, Bexar, Caldwell, Comal, Guadalupe, Hays, and Medina counties to reduce their annual authorized pumping amount. The purpose of mandatory pumping reductions is to stabilize water levels and spring flow until rainfall replenishes the aquifer.
We are asking everyone to help conserve water by reducing their usage. Although there are lawn watering restrictions for irrigations systems, sprinkler or soaker hose, you may water with a hand-held hose or bucket at any time on any day. Early morning is the best time to water your lawn, as that's when you're least likely to lose water to evaporation, according to the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service.
